Biljana Plavsic, once called Bosnia’s “iron lady,” was due to be sentenced for war crimes today.

Slobodan Milosevic was back in court today after a three week break to hear testimony from a former member of the dreaded Serbian paramilitary group known as the Red Berets, allegedly controlled by the former Yugoslav president.

Serbia was heading for a major political crisis today after it failed for a second time to elect a president and the top contender, Yugoslav president Vojislav Kostunica, said he would not recognise the outcome.
