A man stabbed his mother 10 times with a kitchen knife and then kicked her and beat her with a brush handle until it broke as she lay on the ground, the Central Criminal Court sitting in Castlebar heard yesterday.

A 25-year-old Roscommon man has appeared in court charged with assault causing harm following the death of his mother.

A man has been charged in relation to the fatal stabbing of 47-year-old Ann Henry in Roscommon Town on Saturday.

Detectives were tonight continuing to question man over the fatal stabbing of a 47-year-old woman.

Gardaí in Roscommon are continuing to question a man in his 20s in connection with the death of a woman in the town yesterday afternoon.
