Almost three quarters of parents would prefer their children's primary school to be run by the State rather than religious orders, according to a survey being published today.

The association representing the principals of Irish primary schools has claimed that its members are suffering from exhaustion, burn-out, migraines and anxiety because of the stress of their work.
