The Court of Appeal has ruled that the sentence handed down to Patrick O’Brien for raping his daughter Fiona Doyle was unduly lenient.

The new Court of Appeal will hear an application from prosecutors that the sentence handed down to the father of well-known abuse victim Fiona Doyle was unduly lenient.

A major conference is being held in Dublin today to mobilise support for a campaign to help survivors of abuse.

THANKS to a courageous mother and daughter this has been a landmark week in the long-running campaign for justice for Irish women.

Watching as the prison doors finally closed behind her father, Fiona Doyle sent out a message of hope to rape victims fearful of not being believed: “There will be somebody. Somebody will listen to you.”
