Father jailed as judge ‘regrets’ distress caused

Mr Justice Paul Carney has revoked bail for a father who raped his child for a decade.

The judge told rape victim Fiona Doyle at the Central Criminal Court that he had no hesitation in expressing his “profound regret” for the distress caused to her in this case.

Ms Doyle’s father Patrick O’Brien, aged 72, walked out of court on Monday after the judge released him on bail pending an appeal to a prison sentence of 12 years, with nine suspended.
