Rob Heffernan’s bronze medal from the 2010 European Athletics Championships may have been four years overdue, but to receive it before a home audience at Cork City Hall last evening made the wait worthwhile.

European Athletics has awarded the 2014 European Athletics Championships to the Swiss city of Zurich.

The 124th European Athletics Council meeting starts tomorrow in Barcelona, with an announcement scheduled to be made on the host city for the 2012 European Athletics Championships.
