Heffernan heroics finally earn reward with European bronze

Rob Heffernan’s bronze medal from the 2010 European Athletics Championships may have been four years overdue, but to receive it before a home audience at Cork City Hall last evening made the wait worthwhile.

“There is no point in having regrets,” said the Togher athlete, after receiving the medal from fellow world champion and 2000 Olympic silver medallist, Sonia O’Sullivan.

Heffernan was awarded the medal after the ban retrospectively given to Russian Stanislav Emelyanov for a doping offence.
