Bride Rovers 1-21 Youghal 1-13: It says much about Bride Rovers’ dominance in Ballynoe on Saturday evening that an eight-point final winning margin would seem to flatter opponents Youghal.
St Finbarr’s 2-15 Newcestown 1-15: An extra-time surge from St Finbarr’s, having sneaked a draw at the end of 60 minutes, propelled them into Round 2A of the Cork SHC at Newcestown’s expense in Brinny yesterday.
Midleton 2-16 Bishopstown 0-12: There was only going to be one winner from this first-round Cork SHC clash in Páirc Uí Rinn yesterday and yet it wasn’t so much a case of 2013 champions Midleton being comfortably in control all through, more an issue of how closer Bishopstown might have been had they not accumulated 17 wides.
Blackrock 1-22 Ballyhea 1-13: Twelve months after losing heavily to Ballyhea, Blackrock were this time standing on the winner’s rostrum after a low-key Cork SHC first round clash at sun-splashed Mallow yesterday.
Douglas 2-18 Na Piarsaigh 1-18: An outstanding contest, highlighted by the skill and class of Alan Cadogan, presented a much more positive image of Cork hurling after the flop in Semple Stadium the previous Sunday and fittingly Douglas were the winners in this first-round game in Páirc Uí Rinn yesterday.
Glen Rovers 0-23 Carbery 0-6: Holders Glen Rovers got off to a winning start in their Cork SHC opener at Coachford yesterday.

Douglas 3-16 Duhallow 1-13 (Cork SHC): He may only have been a bit player in Jimmy Barry-Murphy’s inter-county plans in recent seasons but Stephen Moylan was very much centre-stage after Douglas downed fancied divisional outfit Duhallow in Coachford on Saturday.
Midleton 1-15 St. Finbarr’s 1-13: The story of this Cork SHC round four clash on Saturday centred around Midleton’s staggering total of 20 wides, but 1-15 was enough for the Magpies to make it into the quarter-finals to face the winners of next weekend’s Duhallow-Douglas clash.

Sarsfields 0-28 Youghal 0-11: Winning manager Pat Ryan insisted after this trouncing of Youghal in Rostellan yesterday that there has been “no talk” of Sarsfields attempting once more to win back-to-back Cork senior hurling championship titles. But, on this evidence they will be strongly in contention, certainly ahead of a quarter-final clash with either Imokilly or Ballyhea.

Erin’s Own 3-19 Na Piarsaigh 2-18: What might have appeared to be a stroll in the park for favourites Erin’s Own when they turned over at half-time with a 14 points advantage ultimately proved to be a struggle to gain their quarter-final place in the Cork SHC at Pairc Uí Rinn last evening.

Douglas 1-14 St Finbarr’s 0-9: The meeting of these city rivals at Páirc Uí Rinn on Saturday failed to live up to its pre-match billing as a tantalising first round Cork SHC derby.
