“We were in the middle of Times Square, walking to the cinema, and I got this…it was like a lightning bolt across my stomach. I nearly fell to the ground. I was like, what the hell, but it was gone as quick as it came. They [the pains] were really inconsistent… so I knew it wasn’t the real deal,” Ryan explained.
Ryan spoke of the recent hospital examination that followed, joking about the surreal experience of having her doctor confirm that she was one centimetre dilated and that the countdown to her baby’s birth was officially on.

“I’m not joking you, his whole arm had to go up my vagina… your dignity is just out the window,” she said.
She said her husband John, who was on the other side of the curtain, laughed when the obstetrician left, saying: “If this wasn’t to do with a pregnancy thing, there’s just a man with his full arm up my wife’s vagina while I’m at the other side of the curtain”.
Ryan said the situation only became more awkward when she started laughing during the examination, something she admits did not improve matters.
Her sister Lottie responded by pointing out just how bizarre women’s health appointments can be, sharing her own experience during a recent check-up.
The final episode of season three of the podcast was very fitting for listeners who have been following Ryan’s pregnancy journey in real time, from honest conversations and emotional reflections on fertility, grief, wedding debates, and now the final stretch before labour.
