Brown Thomas has unveiled its highly anticipated Christmas windows at its Cork store, which can only mean one thing in the city – the festive season has officially begun.
This year, the theme of the windows, which tells a story of the importance of family and friends and the magic of gifting at Christmas time, is ‘This Is Christmas’.
Fashionable festive duo – Holly, the gifting maven with impeccable taste, and her longtime companion Jolly, the pooch with the most enviable Christmas party looks in town – make their way to Cork city on a seasonal adventure.
The four windows at Brown Thomas in Cork bring the story of Holly and Jolly’s journey to life, beginning as they leave home to start their adventure, before arriving at Brown Thomas on Patrick Street.
They explore the store, with Holly selecting Christmas gifts and Jolly hunting down the perfect find, before the story concludes at home, where Holly and Jolly are surrounded by family and friends with their carefully chosen gifts around the Christmas tree.

Speaking to the about what makes the reveal of the store’s Christmas windows in Cork so special, store manager of Brown Thomas Cork, Miriam Flahive, said: “It is such a special time for us to reveal the Brown Thomas windows.
“For sure, it is not just the start of Christmas for the store, but also, I believe, for Cork city. The excitement on people’s faces, the smiles as you see them passing the windows, it really brings an emotion, it brings a nostalgia, and it really is something that we are very proud of.
“I think Brown Thomas really has such a high standard in the city for everything Christmas. We see so many different generations coming through the store; it’s multi-generational. Finding your gifts in Brown Thomas supports and helps everything that happens in people’s lives and in their families.
“And no more so than the Tree of Remembrance that we have outside the store. Remembering our loved ones at Christmas is really important. Gifting, for everybody, brings something different.

"It is a very emotional time as well, and it is about making memories, and I think everything that Brown Thomas encapsulates around Christmas, with in-store entertainment, with the giftings on offer in-store, with our windows, it all brings Christmas to life in the city.”
Touching on how the store has prepared for the busy festive season ahead, and the trends she is seeing so far from those purchasing their gifts in-store, Flahive said: “I think people are much more organised this year. Christmas has already started. We have seen higher footfall in the last couple of weeks.

“I anticipate that it’s just going to, week-on-week, grow as we get closer to Christmas and get much, much busier for us. But that’s what adds to the excitement and atmosphere within the store as well – when we have a bustling store, the streets are bustling outside.
“Brown Thomas Cork has been preparing for quite a while. We have opened a beautiful, new fragrance department just inside the doors of Brown Thomas.
"We have introduced many new fragrance brands that customers have been requesting for quite some time. We have also opened, this year, our Planet Beauty department, which has a main entrance on Winthrop Street.
"And we have a new menswear department with our fabulous young, contemporary store on Caroline Street."
The Brown Thomas windows can now be admired by passers-by and shoppers alike. The best time to see them is when darkness falls, when the lights appear more vibrant.
