On the same day as Charlie Kirk’s death, there was another school shooting in America. There were 100 incidents of school shootings in America in the last year alone: 31 deaths and 96 injuries. We hear little about those deaths

Last Wednesday, I was just coming in the door after a swim when my phone pinged. A notification told me that right-wing conservative activist Charlie Kirk had been involved in some sort of shooting. I was aware of Mr Kirk, having seen many of his videos on social media. Moments later, my daughter came downstairs, her face ashen. “Dad, look at this,” she said.

The video I watched shook me to the core. For some reason, I wasn’t expecting it. A young father brutally slain in front of his wife and kids because of his opinions. For a moment, I thought that must be AI.
