On Saturday IKEA in Ballymun plays host to a shopping experience with a difference. It is inviting shoppers to come along in their pyjamas, and those IKEA Family members who do will get a free cooked breakfast on the day, as well as a €15 discount when they spend €50 in-store. Did you know there are over 12 managed bee hives in Phoenix Park? This is just one of the nuggets you'll find out about at the Biodiversity Festival and Honey Show. Educational workshops and tours will offer advice on the things we can do to protect and conserve our environment. If you’re planning a wardrobe refresh as we move into autumn pop along to this clothes swap on Sunday. Bring along two items of clothing and swap them out for new-to-you items. There will also be some delicious nibbles on the day, and all proceeds raised will go towards Gaza Go Bragh, who are delivering much-needed supplies to Gaza. Buy your ticket here
Starting in Harley's Street (off MacCurtin Street), this cycle tour recounts tales of Cork's LGBT history The 9km trek follows cycle lanes all the way to its furthest point at Blackrock Castle Observatory, and stopping off in the popular Marina Market for a chat to round off the event. Tickets are €6.50 ( buy them here) and you should bring your own bike and other cycling gear.
Feast, the East Cork food festival, culminates in a street food market in Midleton on Sunday where over 60 stalls will line Main Street. The event will also feature a dedicated family fun zone with an interactive mini-zoo, healthy-eating workshops from the Cool Food School, giant games (Jenga, Connect Four), Mighty Kids yoga, face painting, a food treasure trail.
Gurranabraher artist Rob Lake’s Yekal exhibition will be open this weekend in St Peter’s in North Main Street. The exhibition will feature a series of Rob’s pop art including his piece Banríon, which depicts a triumphant Katie Taylor in the artist’s distinctive style. The exhibition launch party is Thursday, September 5 and the show runs til September 9.
