Five key pieces for summer fashion
THIS summer’s biggest fashion trends are wonderfully wearable. It is as though a normal woman visited Zoolander’s scary cabal of fashion designers to petition for comfy shoes, beautiful prints, and flattering silhouettes. And lo, they did respond with walk-everywhere heels, dreamy skirts, patterned tunics, worn-in denim and dressy versions of what you wear in the gym (or on the couch).
Still not convinced you could pull off some of the new must-haves? Ready to bypass ripped denim and crop tops? These are the wardrobe updates for you!

Forget bralets and bustiers (so 2012), the only crop-tops to be seen in right now are boxy and sophisticated. They should reveal the skin below your bust (the spot least likely to bulge), ideally above a high-waist skirt or trouser. Crop tops are available in countless prints and textures on the high street but block colours are most flattering.!

Summer’s “sports-luxe” trend trounces hot-pants in the short-trousers stakes. Sports-luxe is all about elevating classic athletic garments with luxurious fabrics and embellishments. Leather-look gym shorts are not for everyone (€53.38 at ASOS, if they are for you), but most of us can pull off a pair of Bermuda-length shorts.

Thigh-skimming skirts, whether skater-length or fifties style, are the kind you should be swishing about in this season. There is one of these every body shape. !

A trench coat is rarely a fashion “don’t” but is not cutting-edge its classic form. Keep up-to-date by choosing a sleeveless version in an unexpected fabric. This suede-textured, Italian cotton coat from AllSaints is the perfect way to get the look at a high-street price.

Channel Katharine Hepburn with summer’s high-waist, wide-legged trousers. Avoid wrinkle-prone drawstring linens and invest in tailored cotton or a free-flowing silky pair, depending on your fitness level. Tailored types should stick to Hepburn-esque blocks of navy, white or nude.
