How to get the Amanda Seyfried hair look

Amanda Seyfried’s golden locks have been her trademark since Mean Girls and long, loose styles showcase their peak condition.

How to get the Amanda Seyfried hair look

Fergal O’Connor, co-owner of Origin Hair Design, tells Rachel Marie Walsh how to get these pretty waves with a side twist.

Step 1: This is a modern take on Jessica Rabbit waves that looks glamorous but has a lot of movement. Begin by shampooing with Redken Diamond Oil Shampoo, €16.50, and conditioning with Redken Diamond Oil Conditioner, €18.50. These products contain essential oils that nourish the hair and control frizz beautifully.”

Step 2: Use a volumising mousse, such as Kérastase Mousse Bouffante, €23, to create weightless body and help the hair retain “curl memory”. To ensure even application, separate wet hair into six large sections and comb through.”

Step 3: Thoroughly rough-blowdry the hair and part as desired.

Tip: Amanda’s parting may not be the one that best suits your face shape. Side parts are ideal for long, narrow faces, as they make the face appear wider. To get the best part for a long face, part the hair in line with the arch of the eyebrow on your best side. To select your best side, look directly at a mirror. If your nose goes slightly to one side (as most do), then part your hair on the opposite side.

If your face is round or square, opt for a centre part. This frames your face and will even it out by making it appear slightly longer. If your face is heart or triangle-shaped, parting your hair just off the centre will balance out your features. If you’re unsure which side to set your part on, refer to the nose trick above.

Step 4: Spray a heat protector, such as ghd Heat Protect Spray, €11.95, on dry hair before curling. Beginning from the nape of the neck, take one-inch sections of hair and wrap around a curling wand. Start from an inch away from the scalp and wind the hair right up to the ends. Once the ends are secure, roll the wand in a little closer to the scalp to give the curl maximum definition. Keep curling sections, working upwards towards the top of the head. Curl the sides the same way, working from above the ears towards the parting.

Step 5: To achieve Amanda’s waves, gently brush out the curled hair with a large vent brush.”

Step 6: Take a small front section of hair on the side of your head nearest your parting, twist it into a tight rope and pin to the back of your head. Finish with a mist of spray-gloss.”
