Product watch: Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover

Chanel’s limited-edition highlighting powder is a luxurious way to get some spring sunlight on your skin. A light dusting of this silky peach-beige stuff lifts the complexion and diminishes imperfections. Like any Chanel product, it is beautifully detailed. Camellias, linked Cs and tiny lipstick icons are engrave in the powder’s surface. It doesn’t come cheap but it is plentiful and a little goes a long way.

Clarins Instant Eye Make-Up Remover, €21

Good girls never go to bed without removing their make-up, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a chore. Minimise the hassle with Clarins’ new remover, which takes off long-lasting and even glitter make-up quickly and completely. The two-part formula includes non-emulsifying oil, which breaks down the pigment in heavy or waterproof cosmetics. The camomile and organic rose-water part moisturises while sluicing away environmental impurities. Shake well before use.

Shu Uemura Art of Hair Oil-in-Cream, €38

No matter how cold the Irish January, there’s always moisture in the air. This benefits the complexion but play havoc with carefully blow-dried hair. Oil-in-Cream from Shu Uemura Art of Hair is a leave-in treatment that conditions, controls frizz, refines curls and makes hair more manageable. The cream contains heavenly-scented camellia oil, which the brand says is traditionally used by the Japanese to give hair “the delicacy of the flower and the strength of a willow”. Used as a blow-dry lotion, it leaves locks Geisha-glossy and baby-soft.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Serum Infusion, €56

New research by Estée Lauder determined that ozone — the interaction of UV light and environmental pollution — can cause serious damage to the skins DNA. Visible results of this include fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. The brand has developed a new eye serum to help skin’s natural ability to reduce the effects. This super-hydrating formula contains anti-irritants, anti-oxidants and hyaluronic acid to decrease signs of premature aging in the short term and encourage natural protection from them over time. The serum will not be available nationwide until March, but previews at Brown Thomas this month.

Bobbi Brown Extra-Soothing Balm, €62.59

Bobbi Brown’s rich, multi-purpose balm plumps and moisturises chapped lips, dry hands and even rough heels. The geranium, avocado and rosemary oils make for a comforting cold-weather cream.

YSL Forever Youth Liberator Night Creme, €65

YSL’s Forever range claims to restore both the appearance and the properties of youthful skin. The line contains a patented blend of synthentic sugars called glycantif, which prompts cells to renew themselves. Targeted at 30-50 year-olds, this is a little pricey for 50ml but, as YSL research found over 90% (of 51) women reported smoother, plumper and firmer skin after just four weeks.

Duo Fibre Face Brush by M.A.C, €32

The newest addition to M.A.C’S tool arsenal helps achieve a profession-looking application of powder blushes and highlighters. The full, circular puff is best for lightly blending and layering products. The bristles are made from a downy blend of goat and synthetic fibres.

Max Factor Clump Defy False-Lash Effect Mascara, €13.99

Max Factor’s update on the False-Lash Effect Mascara prevents clogging with tight, evenly-spaced bristles on a curved brush. The bristles hug the lashes, while the curve loads the brush with enough product to thoroughly saturate them. Produces neat and voluminous results for a bargain price. Available in black and brown.

Lancôme Khôl in Love in Jade Crush, €17.28

A flash of colour on an otherwise natural face is one of spring’s biggest beauty trends. Carpe Diem with this vibrant jade khôl. Application is low-effort thanks to the soft, strong pigment, but makes the eyes appear instantly wider and brighter, especially if you line the upper lashes alone.
