Kris Jenner has announced the death of her mother, Mary Jo 'MJ' Shannon, at the age of 91.
The celebrity momager, 70, shared the news via Instagram on Thursday, paying an emotional tribute to the matriarch whom she described as “the heart of our family”.
“Today, we said goodbye to my beautiful Mommy MJ,” the Kardashian matriarch wrote. “There are no words that could ever capture what she has meant to me or the heartbreak of having to say goodbye. She taught me everything that truly matters … to love your family fiercely, to be kind, to show up for the people you love, and to never take a single moment together for granted.”
Ms Jenner reflected on her mother’s resilience and faith, noting that her wisdom would continue to shape the family for generations.

“My heart is broken into a million pieces,” she continued. “Thank you for giving me the greatest childhood and oh what a beautiful blessed life. I love you forever.” A familiar face to fans of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, MJ made regular appearances on the family’s reality programmes, endearing herself to audiences as a grounded, beloved figure within the high-profile household.
Outside of television, MJ was an established businesswoman. In 1980, she founded the children’s boutique Shannon & Co in San Diego. She previously shared fond memories of her granddaughter Kim Kardashian playing in the shop as a child and showing an early interest in the family business.
Following her separation from Kris Jenner’s father, Robert Houghton, MJ married businessman Harry Shannon. The couple remained together for 40 years until his death in a car crash in 2003.
Ms Jenner concluded her tribute by stating that her mother’s legacy will live on indefinitely in her children and grandchildren.
