Cheryl, Stacey Solomon and Alesha Dixon are joining The Voice UK in a major show revamp, ITV has announced.

Girls Aloud star Cheryl has joined the coaching panel for the series alongside rapper and fellow newcomer Aitch.

They will replace departing coaches Tom Jones, Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher and will join returning coaches Kelly Rowland and Will.i.am.

This comes after Jones claimed ITV “made the decision” to “fire” him from the show, where he has been an on-off coach since it debuted in 2012.

Solomon and Dixon will present the next series, replacing Emma Willis, who will host the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

In a statement, ITV said they would like to thank the “irreplaceable Sir Tom Jones” for his years on The Voice UK and the “countless incredible and unforgettable moments he gave the show”.

In a statement on Instagram shared on Tuesday, Jones wrote: “To be clear, I did not want to leave The Voice as I love the show and really appreciate the audience. ITV made this decision – obviously a while ago, and I was told just recently.

“The reason given is because of a financial difficulty with insurance.

“They now say in the press they wanted to refresh the show and, with a new coaching line-up, there wouldn’t be a chair for me.

“They are offering a much-reduced role where I would make an appearance but without being actually involved from the start, and I’m not thrilled about that.

“So, the only thing I know right now, is that there’s never a good time to fire an 86-year-old who’s still pretty good at his job.”

A show spokesperson said: “We have loved working with Sir Tom Jones over the past nine years on The Voice UK.

“While he will no longer be a full-time coach on series 15, we continue to talk to Sir Tom and his team about his involvement in the next series.”

ITV also thanked Emma Willis, Tom Fletcher and Danny Jones for their work on the show and wished them well for the future.

The Voice debuted on BBC One in 2012, with ITV acquiring the rights for the sixth series.

Jones previously left before the fifth series in 2016 and criticised the BBC’s “sub-standard behaviour” for axing him from the show with just a 24-hour warning.

Series 15 of The Voice UK will be broadcast in 2027.

The current series continues on Saturday September 12 at 7pm on ITV1, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
