Gone Girl actress Emily Ratajkowski returns home to Cork

She may be a Gone Girl for large chunks of the year, but Emily Ratajkowski hinted she was back in the West Cork town she once called home and which she considers to be one of the best places in the world.

The A-list model and actress, whose middle name is O’Hara and who has Irish ancestors, posted a picturesque snap on Instagram of a tree-lined laneway with the caption “emrata Home away from home #Bantry”.

Another snap, this time on Facebook, shows her sipping a glass of Guinness with the caption “Guinness is good for you” and giving a thumbs-up — though she has been quoted in the past as saying: “I’m more of a Smithwick’s or Bulmer’s girl than a pint of Guinness.”

The 24-year-old is a prolific poster on Instagram where she has 3m followers. Amid various artistic — and often scantily clad — images of herself, Bantry and West Cork have made regular appearances on her account, including one of a panoramic image of typical Irish countryside with the message “emrata Missing beautiful #westcork Ireland today”.

She regularly returns here, not least because her parents have a house just outside Bantry where they spend a large chunk of the year.

She even admitted in an interview with the Late Late Show last year that, while she doesn’t speak Irish, she has one word “ciúnas” or silence, taught to her by one of her friends who was studying Irish. “She says that to me because I talk too much,” she said.

Ms Ratajkowski came to the world’s attention when she played a prominent role in the video for Robin Thicke’s Blurred Lines.

However, while the song and video proved controversial for Robin Thicke for its apparent objectification of women and the subsequent claims that the song copied the music of Marvin Gaye, it did not appear to harm the model and actress’ career.

She has since appeared in the 2014 blockbuster Gone Girl, Entourage and We are Your Friends.

She is now set to star in indie film Cruise opposite actor, Spencer Boldman, playing an upper-class Jewish girl who falls for a working class Italian-American.
