George Ezra delivers set by sharing stories about Europe at Electric Picnic

Day two now at Electric Picnic and happy to report that the sun has come out and is hopefully here to stay.

The jumpers were ditched and the t-shirts were out in force – all in good time to work on the farmers tan – as the crowd waited to welcome none other than George Ezra to the Main Stage.

For those who have been here for the last two days then there has been plenty of time to explore all the weird and wonderful things there is to do and if you haven’t we’re not surprised – this place is huge.

Those who have just arrived today will have already been looking forward to the Main Stage acts.

The Main Stage Arena was flooded with people awaiting the much anticipated George Ezra to appear this evening.

George didn’t fail to please the crowd with his set which included popular songs Barcelona, Blame It on Me and Budapest.

George and his band walked out on stage to be greeted by over a thousand cheering fans and opened the set.

After playing two songs he welcomed the crowd. “Hello Electric Picnic, my name is George Ezra and this is my lovely band. We’re going to play a few songs for you and this next song is from the album. It’s a song called Listen to The Man,” he said.

He continued with his set before telling the crowd the story about his travels around Europe. “I bought a train ticket that allows you to travel around Europe and I had a notebook with me and I would write about everything I saw and everyone I met. This next song is about one of the places I visited and it’s called Barcelona,” he said.

George continued to tell he crowd his story. “I got in contact with these three girls from Sweden who said I could stay at their flat so of course I said yes. It just so happened that the Eurovision Song Contest was held in Sweden at this particular time. I’ve gone my whole life without watching the Eurovision,” he said.

“I wasn’t going watching it sober. Drink was not sold after a particular time so I ended up buying a bottle of gin off a man in a park. In this next song I say I missed a train but that’s not the full truth."

"I woke up and said no I’m not moving, not for love or money. So I missed the train to this place but I wrote a song about it and it is called Budapest.”

The crowd erupted with excitement as George sung the first line of the song Budapest. The song was his first major hit and most successful single to date with over 60 million views on YouTube.

Beaming from the reaction from the crowd he said, “To continue my trip around Europe this next song is a song I wrote about a blind man in Amsterdam.”

When the song came to an end George said, “This is the first time we’ve played at Electric Picnic and it has been wonderful. Enjoy the rest of Electric Picnic and see you soon thank you very much,” he said before finishing the set with a final song and a wave good bye to the crowd.

Acts continue to impress Electric Picnicers this year with Sam Smith and Blur yet to play later tonight and Florence and The Machine set to play at 10:30pm tomorrow night.
