Coronation Street filming cancelled for day as mark of respect
In a mark of respect for Anne Kirkbride, filming at Coronation Street's been stopped for the day.
Producers of the soap consulted with cast this morning, and it was felt that time was needed for the actors and crew to come to terms with the shock news.
Filming was due to restart on the show tomorrow.
Actress Anne Kirkbride played Deirdre Barlow for over 40 years and died yesterday after a short illness.
She was voted TV Personality Of The Year in 1983 after one of the character's most memorable plots - a love triangle, involving Ken Barlow and Mike Baldwin.
William Roache played Anne’s on-screen husband Ken Barlow. He was first to arrive on the set on this morning, and was among the last to leave. He said "'We all wanted to carry on filming today for Annie’s sake but when it came to it we couldn't do it".
