Ed Sheeran to play secret Irish gig this month
Ed Sheeran will play a surprise gig in Whelan’s pub, Dublin later this month.
The special gig is to feature in VH1’s Storytellers series, in which musicians pick and perform at a venue that has personal meaning to them.
And it's no shock that Ed has chosen Whelan's as his venue.
It was the venue that the singer watched Damien Rice perform more than a decade ago, a concert that he has always credited as “changing his life”.
"It's amazing to come back to perform at a place that means so much to me personally,” he said referencing the gig.
"I was only about 11 or 12 years old when I saw Damien play at Whelan’s, and that night literally changed my life.
"The time he spent talking with me after the show made all the difference. It inspired me in a way that I only hope to do for someone else."
We can only hope it resembles his infamous secret gig in Doyle’s pub in July of last year.
But of course we’re not still upset that we missed it … not one little bit … ok maybe just a little … ok we are still gutted.
Only 400 fans will gain access to the gig, that is to take place January 24, and it’s not yet known whether tickets will be available to the public.
See you all in the queue!
