VIDEO: Plane struck by lightning on runway
As rain was battered the runway, a Delta Airlines Boeing 737 was struck by lightning while it waited in the take-off queue.
Wait for it...
Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant confirmed the strike but told CNN that planes like this are designed to withstand lightning.
"Aircraft design allows lightning bolts to be safely redirected," Durrant wrote.
"Fuselage structure and industrial-grade insulation acts as (a) super-conductive lightning rod that rechannels lightning around and away from customers and crew and out into the ground via the landing gear."
