VIDEO: Americans watch Father Ted for the first time
The staple of every Irish household is still as popular (if not more popular) now, despite the show only airing in the early 90’s.
The show is often considered the Irish version of Godwin’s Law, with no online argument or debate able to take place without someone dropping in a favourite quote from our three favourite priests.
But, as we said, we find it hard to understand that there are people out there who do no know about this televisual feast.
In this video from Buzzfeed, a group of Americans sit down at a computer to try and understand what all the fuss was about, and we think they will be pleasantly surprised.
Their initial concern about the sitcom is the choice of font they use for the opening logo, and from there on confusion ensues.
Irish humour seems to wash straight over their heads with some of the gags that had us rolling in stitches not even phasing the first time viewers.
On the positive side, they seem quite fond of Father Jack, Mrs Doyle, John and Mary from the shop and they even seem to have a little crush on Dougal.
