A host of Cork’s musicians took to the stage at the City Hall on Wednesday night to pay tribute to Jimmy Crowley, the legendary ballad singer stricken with several health issues.

Despite the extremely warm weather and numerous other events in Cork this week, a large crowd attended the venue. They were treated to performances from many of the city’s folk stalwarts, and several representatives of other musical genres.

Among the performers was Jimmy’s brother Darby Crowley, who spoke in advance of the event of how moved the family was by the public response to the legendary ballad singer’s plight: “The family have been overwhelmed by the response to the appeal, it is a fantastic tribute to him and his music. We are very proud of Jimmy and his achievements, he is a lovely man.”

Crowley has returned to his home in Cobh after spending five months in hospital after suffering a stroke. He was also diagnosed with oesophageal cancer last September.

A GoFundMe appeal launched by his partner Eve Telford has already raised over €105,000, that will be used for at-home care, and necessary modifications to Crowley's house.
