Cork-set film Christy is now on release, and Siobhan McSweeney presents The Traitors on RTÉ One.

Cinema: Christy

 General release, Friday, August 29

A love letter to Cork’s Northside, Christy is the debut film by director Brendan Canty and screenwriter Alan O’Gorman. Two estranged brothers, shaped by chequered childhoods in care, suddenly find themselves sharing a roof. They must now reconcile with their pasts and make decisions about the future. Christy is a film with heart and hope.

Album: CMAT - Euro-Country

Friday, August 29

CMAT releases her third album Euro-Country on Friday, August 29.
CMAT releases her third album Euro-Country on Friday, August 29.

Her third record in five years, Euro-Country finds Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson aka CMAT channelling everything she has promised in her career to date into the album of the year. From viral sensations ( Take a Sexy Picture of Me) to recession-era pathos (the title track), Euro-Country is packed full of bangers and is set to establish her as the voice of a generation at home and further afield, with dates sold out from New York to Dublin.

Festival: Electric Picnic

Stradbally, Co Laois, Friday-Sunday, August 29-31

Expanding even further this year, with a capacity of 85,000, the 20th edition of Electric Picnic is its biggest yet. Hozier returns to headline Friday, with the next big thing Chappell Roan preceding him on the main stage, while Kings of Leon will wrap things up on Sunday night with - shockingly - their debut performance at Electric Picnic. It’s stuffed with something for the whole family and people of all ages. You won’t be bored.

The latest show from Michael Keegan-Dolan and Teac Damsa features five dancers and is soundtracked by the album 1975 from the Bothy Band. “The land, the weather, the rhythm, the people — it all finds its way in,” Keegan-Dolan told us earlier this week about the intimate show.

TV: The Traitors Ireland

RTÉ One, Sunday-Tuesday, August 31-September 2

Siobhán McSweeney steps into the hosting role made iconic by Claudia Winkleman as the murder mystery game puts on its cloak and arrives at Slane Castle. A group of 24 hopefuls embark on missions as they work together to add more money to the potential prize pot of €50,000 - all the while fearing betrayal and lies from their fellow contestants/teammates. Nobody can be trusted.
