Cork venue reveals lineup for jazz festival weekend
Boolaboom will play at the Savoy during the Cork Jazz Festival.
The Savoy is the latest Cork venue to reveal its lineup for the Cork Jazz Festival weekend. Running from October 23-25, the bank holiday weekend will see a mix of jazz, electronica, and other genres across the three nights in the venue.
Triskel Arts Centre, the Metropole Hotel, and Cork City Hall are the other locations that have revealed at least part of their line-ups for the Guinness-sponsored event, with the festival proper expected to make its overall announcement next week.
The Savoy will open their weekend on Friday, October 23, with Boolaboom, the energetic Cork-based big band who often bring about 20 brass and percussionists to the stage. Saturday’s headliner is a DJ set from British house stalwart Jimpster, with Irish deck maestros Shane Johnson (Fish Go Deep) and Dónal Dineen in support.
Headlining on Sunday night is London-based DJ and producer Shy One, whose recently-released album was widely praised for showcasing her grounding in various genres of the British electronic music scene.
Other events at the Savoy across the weekend include Latin sounds from French brass collective Santa Machete, while local musicians will lead tributes to jazz legends such as Sun Ra and Charles Mingus.
Elsewhere, the Triskel has confirmed that its long association with the revered ECM label will continue with a concert headlined by Norwegian duo Trygve Seim and Tord Gustavsen. Over at City Hall, the non-jazz fans will be catered for with the likes of the Boomtown Rats, The Stunning, and a Rory Gallagher tribute.
The upcoming announcement from the Guinness Cork Jazz Festival will reveal headliners appearing at such venues as Cork Opera House and the Everyman.
