Who might Taylor Swift bring out as special guests in Dublin?

With just days to go until Taylor Swift's Era's tour lands in Dublin, rumours are swirling about whether the popstar might have some special guests in store for Irish fans.

Over the weekend, Swift played three sold-out shows at London's Wembley Stadium and welcomed some special friends on stage during the 'surprise set' of the show.

These included American singer-songwriter Gracie Abrams, who has just released a new song featuring Swift called 'Us', and Paramore's Hayley Williams, who features on Swift's song 'Castles Crumbling' from her 2023 release, Speak Now (Taylor's Version).

This has got Irish fans wondering whether we might be in store for some special guests at the Aviva this weekend.

Here's who we think might get the call...

Stevie Nicks

The Fleetwood Mac singer has a long history with Swift and could be in Dublin this weekend.

Nicks wrapped up her US tour last week and will be starting the European leg in the 3Arena on Wednesday, July 3. If she's in town early, there's every chance she'll be at one of Swift's shows and could even make an appearance on stage.

The 'Landslide' singer is mentioned by name on Swift's song 'Clara Bow' ('You look like Stevie Nicks / In '75, the hair and lips') which features on her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, and Nick's even wrote a poem for Swift which was included as an insert in the physical CD.

The collaboration came after Nicks credited a song from Swift's Midnights album, 'You’re On Your Own, Kid', for helping her process the passing of her Fleetwood Mac bandmate Christine McVie in November 2022.

Nicks also wrote about Taylor Swift for TIME magazine in 2010, saying: "Taylor reminds me of myself in her determination and her childlike nature. It's an innocence that's so special and so rare."

She said the singer was "writing for the universal woman and for the man who wants to know her" and predicted she would "save the music business".

Nicks also performed with Taylor Swift on stage at the 2010 Grammy Awards.

If Nicks is a special guest at one of Swift's shows in Dublin, it's likely they would perform 'Clara Bow' together. Swift is yet to perform the track live.

Gary Lightbody

Bangor musician Gary Lightbody is the most likely surprise performer at Swift's Dublin shows.

The Snow Patrol frontman co-wrote and featured on the track 'The Last Time' from Swift's album Red in 2010.

He previously performed on stage with her on the Red tour, having been brought out as a surprise guest at her show in California in 2013.

Given the only surprise performers on Swift's shows so-far have been artists who feature on her songs (HAIM, Ice Spice, Gracie Abrams, Hayley Williams) or her opening acts (Sabrina Carpenter), Lightbody seems like a good bet.

Shania Twain

Before there was Taylor, there was Shania.

The queen of country-pop will be in Ireland this week with shows in Cork's Musgrave Park on Tuesday and Malahide Castle, Dublin on Friday.

The pair have a lot of crossover in their fanbases, and many were devastated that Twain's Dublin date clashed with the first night of Swift's Eras residency at the Aviva.

For that reason, a special appearance from Twain on Saturday would be all the sweeter. However, with Twain due to perform at Glastonbury on the Sunday, it's likely the singer will be resting her vocals ahead of her legends slot.

Twain and Swift have previously performed together at the American Music Awards in 2019, and teamed up for a Thelma and Louise inspired-skit (with a surprise appearance from a former President of the United States...) at the Country Music Television awards in 2011.

Twain has been very complimentary of Taylor Swift over the years, and Swift cites her as a key inspiration, so this could definitely be on the cards.

Travis Kelce

The star's All-American boyfriend is also her biggest fan and has been spotted at shows throughout her European leg.

In a complete shock on Sunday night, The Kansas City Chiefs player even joined the singer on stage at Wembley Stadium.

In an on-stage costume change prior to Swift's performance of  'I Can Do It With a Broken Heart', the football star appeared dressed as one of her dancers.

Decked out in a tailcoat and top hat, he carried the singer on stage and even helped her re-apply her make-up.

After that, anything could happen in Dublin..
