Denis Villeneuve's second installment of Dune has gone above and beyond the 2021 film. This is where we get the payoff from all that was set up in the first part. The new film has received rave reviews across the board. Boasting an all-star cast, this film has it all - fantastic performances, great storytelling, and stunning visuals. The sprawling epic takes us to the end of Frank Herbert's first Dune novel but fans will be pleased to know that Villeneuve is already developing a third film based on 1969’s Dune Messiah.

TV

The Gentlemen

Netflix, Thursday, March 7

Kaya Scodelario and Theo James in The Gentlemen.
Kaya Scodelario and Theo James in The Gentlemen.

Theo James leads the cast of this quintessential Guy Ritchie show. Set in the same world as Ritchie's 2020 film of the same name, this offbeat comedy-drama is thoroughly enjoyable to watch. James' character plays the son of an English aristocrat who has found himself in the East London gangster scene. The eight-episode series is a bit of a rollercoaster and often ridiculous but if you take it at face value then you are sure to have a good time with it. It features all the things you associate with Ritchie - guns, geezers, and Vinnie Jones.

Tadhg Hickey is known for his sharp comedy style and his ability to deliver spot-on social commentary and this show delivers just that. Gatman! is a one-man monologue play that presents two contrasting but interdependent narratives. We follow an alcoholic father trying desperately to pull it together and Gatman, a superhero who gets powers from booze. The dark comedy explores the effect of alcohol on the human spirit and doesn't shy away from delving into the depths of trauma that can come with it. As always, Hickey hits the nail on the head making the audience laugh and think in equal measure.
