Podcast Corner: Food podcasts to sink your teeth into

With everybody still in lockdown and spending lots of time in the kitchen, trying to keep sourdough starters alive and baking banana bread, there are lots of food podcasts out there to sink your teeth into.

The Comfort Feed

"We started making a podcast about our relationship with food and then the pandemic happened," says the description for this new podcast from Juliana Adelman and Irish Times restaurant critic Catherine Cleary.

Six episodes in, it's a lifestyle melange, the template currently set as a catchup between the hosts as the starter, Cleary explaining the rebberfied nature of her polenta voyage and Adelman extolling the joy of a sourdough success.

The main course is interviews about people's relationship with food.

Irish Examiner food writer Joe McNamee describes his journey in episode five - his worst food crime? Wholemeal pastry-base tarts, filled with pureed kidney beans.

"It's the sort of thing you'd wear into battle rather than eat," he admits.

The podcasts conclude with recipes, for which you should keep a pen and pad handy.

The Dave Chang Show

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, Dave Chang, host of the Netflix show Ugly Delicious, is at home with a newborn he's battling to feed.

On the episode 'Mr. Moms, Vol. 1: Cooking for Your Family in Quarantine', he tells of one such salt-and-spinach creation.

From such intimacy of hiding noodles from the rest of the family, Chang also has a restaurant empire to his name, and discusses the current difficulties with its CEO on 'Too Small to Fail, Vol. 2'.

Table Manners

Popstar Jessie Ware and her mum are as delightful as ever as season nine (!) continues.

There's less sizzle as Zoom calls replace the dinner-table conversations, but they've called in the big guns such as Dua Lipa and John Legend. No matter the star wattage though, mum Helena is the piece de resistance.
