A TV show is causing teen hysteria in Norway

A TV show called Skam based in Oslo is causing teen hysteria.

Some fans are skipping school to watch the show and others can't sleep or say that they "want to die" because of it.

Skam, which translates to Shame, follows the stories of high school students. However, this is not a regular TV show.

Clips of the show are posted in real time online and all the characters have profiles on Facebook and Twitter. So, if a party was happening at 1am, clips of the party would be posted online at that time and the character's accounts would post status', photos and text messages from the party.

Fans from other countries have been using Google Translate to keep up with the drama as it unfolds.

On Fridays the clips are put together to form that week's episode.

Skam explores real-life issues such as female empowerment, LGBT representation, religion, eating disorders and diversity dressed with intense scenes of teen love, heartbreak, and life.

The trailer for the latest season shows a locker room scene where the teen boys are spraying each other with water and a milk bottle exploding after being thrown.

Fans have become addicted to the show, constantly refreshing for the newest updates.

A Norweigen publication reported in January that Shame had very little marketing besides the characters' social media channels.

Aftenposten reported: "It's almost the perfect recipe for how to capture the main viewer group. Teenagers watching television differently than 30-year-olds. They look a bit here and a little there, as a counterpoint to devour an entire Netflix series."
