Dustin the turkey tells us about his upcoming TV3 toy show and his favourite Toy Show presenter

GO ON YA GOOD THING!

Tis the season to roast a good turkey, so, as is customary, we caught Dustin, Ireland's finest - and longest living turkey - for a quick chat before his upcoming toy show on TV3.

Lucy Kennedy and her co-host Dustin the turkey will be hosting 'Lucy and Dustin's Toy Show Teaser' at 8pm on Friday December 2.

Dustin described the show as a warm up act for The Late Late Toy Show over on RTE1 which kicks off at 9.35pm.

“The show is going to be brilliant, it's a warm up, we are going to swoop in and show off all the toys before The Late Late Toy Show starts.

“I'm up for mad things, but I'm not mad enough to take on The Late Late Toy Show.”

Taking a moment to reflect on the three Toy Show presenters, Gay Byrne, Pat Kenny and Ryan Tubridy, Dustin said he will always think of Gay as the inventer of the Toy Show, but both Pat Kenny and Ryan Tubridy made the show their own.

“Pat Kenny, in fairness, really got stuck in there, you know, kicking the toys and stuff, but Ryan Tubridy is like a big kid himself, he might have 39 bad Late Late shows in the year, but he always pulls it out of the bag for the Toy Show.”

Talking about what is in store for the TV3 teaser show, Dustin said he called in a personal favour: “Santa is a personal friend since I saved him back when I was on The Den years ago, so I gave him a call and asked him to appear on the show.

“He said he was of course very busy, but he would find time to appear as a favour.”

From one messer to another, we asked Dustin had he any tips for boys and girls who might be struggling to stay on the nice list this Christmas: “It's all messing, messing is fine, you just have to be sure to look after each other and try to be good.”

And of course on that fateful night when Santa visits everyone's house, Dustin said it was important that boys and girls went to sleep; “It is always a nervous night, but as long as you go to sleep Santa will visit your house, no matter where you live, but if you stay awake he won't come.”

Speaking about the his fears for the festive season Dustin said he had his family stowed away in a safe house for the Christmas period, when turkey is a top treat, and he also once again appealed to the general public to go veggie.

“A lot of people don't know this, but I am actually the third Happy Pear, we are actually triplets, sure you can see the resemblence, besides the shorts, I don't wear shorts - and the stubble.”

Finally, Dustin told us what he was getting from Santa this year; “The Seoige sisters – again and Pokemon, I do a bit of Pokemon hunting, it's great craic. That's what Santa will be bringing me this year.”
