A sad story with a happy ending.

Check out this tiny puppy who was adopted by cats after his mother died

Bobby the Chihuahua puppy had a very tragic start to his life.

At just two days old Bobby’s mother was knocked down by a car in Detroit and killed.

Being so young it was critical that Bobby get some mother’s milk to survive, however staff at the Michigan Humane Society (MHS) shelter did not have a lactating dog to help him.

After some quick thinking the shelter was alerted to a nursing cat named Gwen, who had just given birth to a little of adorable kittens and was staying with one of their transfer/foster partners.

The shelter decided to experiment and released a video to show off the successful adoption, as Bobby was amazingly accepted as one of the cat’s family.

“It’s a misconception that cats and dogs can’t get along, and as we see at the Michigan Humane Society, they can often become loving family members,” Ryan McTigue spokesperson for MHS told Detroit Free Press.

Bobby is now five weeks old and thriving with Gwen and her kittens. The plan is for the pup to stay with the cats until he can eat solid foods.

After that he will be taken to live with a group of dogs to help him learn social skills. Hopefully, following that short period he will be adopted into a loving home.

If you looking for a cat friendly dog Bobby would more than fit the bill we think!
