This snowy Arctic landscape is actually a Donegal mountain

You’d be forgiven for thinking these beautiful photos were taken somewhere like Greenland or northern Finland. But this Arctic-like snowy landscape is actually Donegal.

Muckish stands at 666 metres and is one of the “Seven Sisters” chain situated in the Derryveagh Mountains. The mountain gets its name from the Irish ‘an Mhucais’ meaning ‘(the) pig's back’ - a reference to its flat-topped appearance.

Along with fellow Donegal mountaineers Jason Black, Patrick McDermott and Kevin Kiely, Iain Miller of uniqueascent.ie ascended Muckish Mountain last Thursday, January 22 and took these stunning shots of the mountain blanketed in snow. .

He writes that “the climb took seven hours car to car” and estimates the temperature at the summit would have been around - 9 degrees Celsius.

So quite chilly but judging by the pics and the video, the cold and the climb were totally worth it.
