VIDEO: Man struck by lightning while trying to film lightning
This video will make you suspicious of blue skies.
Robb Montejano was walking through a field near Seattle when he saw a lightning storm in the distance. He took out his phone, thinking it would be cool to record some lightning during the day when he himself was hit.
Amazingly, Robb - and his phone escaped - unharmed although a little shaken.
In the video - entitled "I was struck by lightning! What have you done today?", you can hear Robb nonchalantly talking about trying to get a shot of the storm before the terrifying sound of the lightning strike hitting him.
"Just on the off-chance that I can catch lightning on film during the daytime, it would be really cool," he says.
"But I don't know if it's gonna happen. I'll give it a minute here. But it would be really, really cool to see."
What's incredible about the video is that it looks like a calm, bright day with no hint of storms. The lightning strike was a literal 'bolt from the blue' - according to the NOAA, lightning can strike up to 25 miles away from the actual storm and that makes them even more dangerous as they are unexpected.
Montejano told KOMO News described what the lightning strike felt like.
"I just felt this surge of electricity go 'boom' through my body," he said.
"The electricity flowing through my body. I can't describe it. It was amazing."
