Mashed potato spill closes Yorkshire motorway

What is going on with all the recent food-related traffic jams (pun intended)?

First, we had the floury mess on the M50 on Saturday (which was brilliantly covered by the Garda Traffic Twitter account, by the way).

And now it's mash.

A section of road in North Yorkshire had to be completely closed down for five hours after a lorry carrying instant mash shed its load.

The A64 motorway was COVERED in the gooey, sticky mess, resulting in massive delays.

A police spokeswoman said: "Instant mash is covering the road and cars have skidded as a result of the mash swelling up."

As you can imagine, it was a bit of a nightmare to clean up. Fire crews eventually used high powered hoses after freezing chemicals failed to lift the mash.

Bet Sunday dinner was ruined for the poor cleaning crew.

"Oh God, no more mash for me."
