Someone in San Francisco is feeling very generous at the moment.

Mystery benefactor gives away hundreds of dollars in city-wide scavenger hunt

Over the weekend, a mysterious benefactor started a city-wide scavenger hunt San Francisco. The prize? Cold, hard cash.

Using the Twitter handle Hidden Cash, the user posted clues leading to several different public locations. Hidden at these various spots across the city are the envelopes that contain the free money.

So why is this mystery person giving away their money? For fun, of course!

The anonymous organiser is apparently a wealthy real estate magnate who also wants to address the wealth inequality in the Bay Area of the city in a provoking and playful way. He (or she) contacted the Bold Italic website to explain the motivations behind the stunt.

"I've made millions of dollars the last few years, more than I ever imagined, and yet many friends of mine, and people who work for me, cannot afford to buy a modest home in the Bay Area," they wrote.

"This has caused me quite a bit of reflection. I am determined to give away some of the money I make, and in addition to charity, to do it in fun, creative ways like this."

The envelopes contain up to €100 in cash and, judging by their posts to Twitter, the hunt has brightened up a lot of people’s day. The organiser plans to expand to other cities in California.

Does anyone have too much money and want to start a scavenger hunt? Please?
