Frank Kelly needs to see a man about a dog
This is just brilliant. Frank Kelly - famous as Jack in Father Ted - needs to see a man about a dog in this short film, Dog Pound.
"I like to think I'm a decent man," he tells his publican as orders a pint of stout, and launches into his tale.
Brilliant little storytelling here that captures that quiet weekday pub feeling perfectly!
No, he's not playing Father Jack here. Kelly is a great actor who's done lots of small roles like this down through the years in addition to his comedy. In fact, this one reminds us of his role in the excellent short film Yu Ming is Ainm Dom.
The story about the Dog Pound was written by Madeleine D'Arcy, who uploaded it to YouTube yesterday, and it won the short film category in last night's Hennessy Literary awards.
And in case you swear you've been in that pub before and can't place it - it's Kehoes on South Anne Street in Dublin. Grand spot.
