Dublin artist's epic tribute to Brian O'Driscoll

We thought we'd seen enough BOD tributes, and the best of them. We were wrong.

Dublin artist's epic tribute to Brian O'Driscoll

Among the many, many fitting tributes paid to Brian O'Driscoll in recent days on the occasion of the great man's last home international, this one has stood out.

An epic black-and-white charcoal image of the Leinster and Ireland great, by Dublin artist Barry Jazz Finnegan - actually drawn during the match against Italy on Saturday.

"A true modern Irish warrior," wrote Finnegan in the description of the picture, which was created as O'Driscoll took to the turf at the Aviva Stadium for the final time.

"I had the idea in the morning and posted to Facebook that I was going to to it," Barry told breakingnews.ie.

"I started it about 1.30pm and finished it about 9.30," he added.

Barry also posted pictures on his Twitter feed of each stage of the drawing:

The artist specialises in large-scale charcoal portraits of famous faces and movie scenes, with subjects including Conor McGregor, Bob Marley, Jack Nicholson, Nelson Mandela and many, many more.

"I started doing the big pieces around four years ago," he said.

"They've proven to be very popular."

He also says he's working on a portrait of Paul O'Connell, according to his Twitter feed.

You can seen a full album of his finished pieces here.

And here's a nice timelapse video of Barry creating a piece - in this instance a scene from Martin Scorcese's 'Gangs of New York'.

As for the BOD picture, Barry says he has been inundated with interest from potential buyers - but he's staying schtum on how much the price tag will be.
