Not a dry eye in the house…

Some 60,000 people helped former footballer Stiliyan Petrov raise thousands for charity. And then they all sang 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. It's quite special…

Football fans know that there is nothing quite like a full-throated rendition of 'You'll Never Walk Alone' to bring a lump to the throat.

And there were lumps in throats a-plenty during yesterday's charity match in Celtic Park, when 60,000 spectators plus a host of current and former footballers, pop stars and celebrities joined together to raise money for a foundation set up by former player Stiliyan Petrov.

Petrov, you'll recall, retired from the game after a year-long battle with leukaemia while he was at Aston Villa.

But his strongest links are with Celtic, and Hoops fans made sure to remind him of that yesterday.

WARNING: You may need a tissue.

Petrov, a former Bulgarian international had intensive bouts of chemotherapy treatment and is now in remission.

The 34-year-old has established a foundation to support people going through the same experience he faced.

Yesterday a Celtic XI lost 5-3 to a Stiliyan Petrov XI, with Louis Tomlinson from One Direction playing for the green and white.

It didn't go well for him though.

When the pop star came on as a substitute for the Celtic XI thousands of young fans cheered, but many of the older fans in the stadium booed.

His appearance ended prematurely though when he was injured in a tackle from professional player Gabriel Agbonlahor.

One Direction fans, it's safe to say, were not happy.

As Tomlinson made his way off the pitch he appeared to take ill, but his manager for the day, Martin O’Neill, said he was okay afterwards.
