Shadow dancers Attraction win 'Britain’s Got Talent' final
Hungarian shadow dance troupe Attraction won ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent tonight after a live final marked by a woman running on stage and throwing eggs at the judges.
The group, whose presence on a show supposedly highlighting native performers had led to criticism, won the public vote after a resolutely British-themed display, including 'Land Of Hope And Glory' and the voice of Winston Churchill.
Cowell later said: "This has been a brilliant series. It has had the eggs factor."
The eight-strong group, who previously appeared on the German and Hungarian equivalents of BGT, pipped teenage Yorkshire comedian Jack Carroll, 14, who was the runner up, and Welsh singing brothers Richard and Adam Johnson, who were third.
Judge Simon Cowell said afterwards that the result was “a bit of a surprise”, adding: “It just shows that this country welcomes people from all over the world and they loved this act.”
The show saw a woman run from the back of the stage and pelt the judges with eggs during Richard and Adam’s song.
The smiling woman dressed in black and seeming to be in her 20s walked through, smiled then started throwing eggs from a carton at the judges.
The group beat off stiff from comedian Jack Carroll, who was the runner-up, and singers Richard and Adam, who came in third place, to win the show's £250,000 prize and a performance on this year's Royal Variety Performance.
On hearing the news they'd won the competition a stunned member of the group said: "It's amazing, yes, thank you very much."
Comedian Carroll, who has cerebral palsy, graciously accepted defeat, saying: "Runner-up? A little bit insensitive is it not? I had a great time and I came second. Cheers everyone. I've tried my best... Cheers to everyone who voted."
The dance act also competed against Jordan O'Keefe, Arisxandra, Luminites, Pre-Skool, Gabz, Francine Lewis, Asanda Jezile and wildcard Steve Hewlett in the final, during which Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift performed.
