Here's one to file under 'great ideas that we don't think will ever see the light of day'.
Newcastle United are currently planning a big revamp of home ground St James' Park, and the company behind it have unveiled their grand vision.
Giant slides (yes, really).
Business improvement company NE1 said it hopes the project will “inject some fun” into the city.
If planning permission is granted the slides could be in operation by next year. NE1 said it has worked with the UK Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and the police to ensure the plans meet safety regulations.
Now, not that we have anything against the idea of slides - who would? - but the notion of thousands of possibily inebriated matchday fans converging on one of these things spells trouble for sure.
Which leaves us with three possibilities.
1 Somebody got the date wrong (April 1 being a while away yet)
2. It's all a PR stunt (in which case, it's working).
3. They're serious.
Our money's on #2.
