Irish singer to judge 'The Voice'

Danny O'Donoghue, lead singer with Irish band The Script, has landed a job as one of the judges on 'The Voice UK'.

Tom Jones, Jessie J and will.i.am will also act as mentors on the BBC version of the show which sees hopefuls sing for the coaches in a 'blind audition' so that they are judged solely on their vocal talent.

Danny said: “I'm a massive fan of 'The Voice', so to be involved as a coach is amazing.

"This is a show unlike any other because it puts vocal ability first above all else. I look forward to putting my team together and battling it out with the other coaches to see who wins this unique, credible competition. I'm in it to win it!”

Jones is equally excited to be joining the show and thinks it will be very competitive.

He said: “I’m excited about 'The Voice', and thrilled to be participating as a coach. This is a strong show; it’s all about talent - but it’s also exciting, competitive and compelling television. I’ve been blessed over the years to share the stage with some of the world's finest artists, and I look forward to being part of the team that discovers a great, new, genuine talent.”

O'Donoghue is a surprise addition for many, as Will Young had been hotly tipped to take on the fourth coaching role.

The former 'Pop Idol' winner did not appear too happy about the news.

Writing on his twitter page, he said: "Words escape me. Life is sometimes a bitch."

He then added in other tweets: "The voice came, the voice went. They wanted to go more rock … Should have dusted off my Leather jacket! Hey ho … I'm holding a seance with Hendrix. Hang on … I can turn this around people. I can turn this around!!!!"

'The Voice' – which will be presented by Holly Willoughby and Reggie Yates – will air on BBC One in the spring.
