Bieber to take paternity test
Teenage pop star Justin Bieber will take a paternity test and then sue the woman who claims he fathered her child, his spokesman said tonight.
Matthew Hiltzik said the 17-year-old Canadian singer will take a paternity test when he returns to the US within the next two weeks.
He also said Bieber’s team plans to “vigorously pursue all available legal remedies to protect Justin”.
The paternity suit was filed last week in San Diego Superior Court by Mariah Yeater.
She says she had just turned 19 when she and Bieber, then 16, had a brief sexual encounter after one of the singer’s concerts last autumn in a backstage bathroom at Los Angeles’ Staples Centre.
Bieber maintains he has never met Yeater.
Paternity law expert Jeffery Leving recently joined Yeater's legal team.
Leving is said to be one of the best lawyers in his field, and has previously been an advisor to the White House on family law.
A statement from law offices Lance Rogers sent to RadarOnline.com read: “We are proud to announce that attorney Jeffery Leving is joining Mariah Yeater’s legal team.
“He is a national expert on family law issues. Mr. Leving has been named one of ‘America’s Best Lawyers’ by Forbes Radio and selected by his peers as one of Illinois’ top attorneys.”
Of Mariah’s allegations, Bieber previously said: “Never met the woman. I'd just like to say, basically, that none of those allegations are true. I know that I'm going to be a target, but I'm never going to be a victim.”
Yeater, 20, has countered, saying she has “provided evidence” to her lawyers which conclusively proves that Bieber is the father.
