Houghton and Reid to marry after 'Saturday Night Show' proposal
Chantelle Houghton and Alex Reid have got engaged after the cage fighter proposed on 'The Saturday Night Show' on RTE One last night.
The pair had talked about their bid to start a family through IVF treatment when presenter, Brendan O'Connor, repeatedly asked Reid if he was going to ask for Houghton's hand.
Reid initially told O'Connor he hadn't got a ring on him.
Then he joked "nobody tell anyone" before he got down on one knee and said "will you marry me".
"Yeah," replied his blushing fianceé.
The couple then hugged and kissed on the prime-time chat show as the credits rolled last night.
Reid, 36, and Katie Price split earlier this year after an 11-month marriage shortly after he finished his own stint on 'Celebrity Big Brother'.
Meanwhile Houghton's high-profile 15-month marriage to Ordinary Boys frontman Samuel Preston ended in November 2007. The couple had met when they both starred on Celebrity Big Brother 4.
The 28-year-old recently revealed her chances of having a baby were ruined by years of extreme dieting over the year and bulimia following her divorce.
The reality TV star said she and Reid, who have been together for nearly eight months, were trying for a baby and had turned to IVF to improve their fertility chances.
This week she also hit back at critics who made jibes about pictures of her in swimwear enjoying a romantic holiday with Reid.
"So apparently I'm fat and 'fat birds' shouldn't wear the swimsuit I was wearing.. it's no wonder young girls end up with eating disorders when people say things like that," she tweeted.
