The national 24-hour helpline for victims of rape and sexual abuse has been inundated with calls during the past week.

The number was displayed on screen after an episode of Coronation Street when there was a depiction of a very violent sex attack.

The number also went up on screen during the Late Late Show on Friday night, after Ryan Tubrity interviewed three sisters who were survivors of childhood sexual abuse by their father.

The Rape Crisis Centre urges anyone who needs support and help to call 1 800 77 88 88 which is always staffed by qualified personnel.
