Brunker's Oxegen debut goes off with a whimper

Amanda Brunker's controversial appearance at the Oxegen festival in Punchestown failed to win over her critics this afternoon.

The Dublin writer and socialite had attracted online vitriol after being named as a late replacement for Jessie J on the festival's Vodafone stage - Oxegen's second-largest.

Making her first-ever stage appearance with Spanish guitar outfit Gitano accompanying, Brunker treated a sparse crowd to a cover of U2's 'With Or Without You'.

Brunker, a newspaper columnist and author of books 'Champagne Kisses' and 'Champagne Babes', looked every inch the Oxegen veteran in a denim mini-skirt, daisy-chain headband and purple floral blouse.

However onlookers said she failed to justify her festival billing with a set lasting under 15 minutes, a minority of which were spent actually singing.

The mum-of-two had been the target of barbed comments on Twitter after her Oxegen slot was announced, leading her to state her intentions to quit the micro-blogging site.

Twitter users commenting on online footage of Brunker's performance were almost uniform in their judgement this afternoon, with one summing it up as an "epic fail".
