Adele’s critically-acclaimed album '21' has become one of the fastest-selling releases in chart history after it sold two million copies in 87 days.
The album, which contains the hit single 'Someone Like You', is now the joint-second fastest selling UK album ever, according to the Official Charts Company.
Its managing director, Martin Talbot, said: “The public are clearly passionate about Adele and passionate about her music.
“They kept her at number one in the Official Albums Chart for almost three months and they’re still buying her records.
“It may only be spring, but Adele is already guaranteed to be one of the artists of 2011.”
The album, which spent 11 weeks at the top of the charts, is tied in second spot with Dido’s 'Life For Rent' which also sold two million in 87 days after its 2003 release.
They both lag behind Robson And Jerome’s eponymous debut which took just 48 days to clock up two million sales.
The biggest selling album of all time is Queen’s Greatest Hits compilation, which notched 5.8 million sales.
