More of the same in 'Battle: Los Angeles'
Director: Jonathan Liebesman
Cast: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan
We have had several excellent alien invasion films of late but this one doesn’t quite make such heady company, even though it purports to be based on a real life incident.
It examines what became known as 'The Battle of Los Angeles' took place during WW2 when unidentified planes were reported over the city and, naturally, caused widespread panic … were the Japanese coming?
Here we have your conventional invasion from outer space and a platoon of marines sent to face down the aliens. All exactly what we expect since there’s nothing innovative on offer in what turns out to be a rather ho-hum affair.
We are simply offered more of the same: things arrive from the sky, people scream and run around, brave military types square the collective jaw and get to work.
