'Unknown' a decent thriller

Director: Juame Collet-Serra

Cast: Liam Neeson, Frank Langella, Aidan Quinn, Diane Kruger, January Jones

Even though the plot is so convoluted you cannot really take the film seriously there is still a lot to enjoy in this Bourne-like thriller - it’s daft but it still delivers enough twists to satisfy.

And, of course, there is the always-watchable Neeson towering over everyone else in the film as Dr Martin Harris who is visiting Berlin for a biotech conference with his wife Elizabeth (Jones) … and finding himself in a nightmare.

He finds he has left his briefcase at the airport and returns to find it. On his way back he is involved in a car crash and when he comes too several days later, suffering from memory loss, he finds his wife in the arms of Quinn who claims to be him.

OK, so it’s a pale Hitchcockian version of the old 'who-am-I-and-why-won’t-people-believe-somebody-has-stolen-my-identity?' routine, but Harris’s efforts to solve the mystery, aided by a young woman (Kruger), makes for a decent, if sometimes too talky, thriller.

Star Rating: 3/5
