Art imitates life in this gleeful swipe at morning television shows in which fluff is more important than hard news.

'Morning Glory' looks at a struggling Stateside show to which the perky, can-do Becky (the wonderful Adams, once again showing us just how delightfully watchable she is) has been sent as producer by boss Goldblum, who can’t always remember what the show is actually called.

Becky, eternally optimistic, has to contend with grumpy Mike (Ford in one of his best performances in years) who wishes he were somewhere else doing ‘real’ TV and with ready-for-anything Coleen (Keaton), two anchors who can’t get along.

There is a wonderful chemistry between the chief characters – though we could have disposed with the romance thrown in for Becky – and if you have ever watched a Stateside morning show – or even the ITV one – you’ll understand just how ghastly the small screen can be.

This isn’t an innovative film but it’s an observant one.
